The first of a number of workshops over the year for youth workers who want to learn how to use AI tools in their practice.

Are you a youth worker who wants to learn how to use AI tools to enhance your work with young people? Do you want to understand the basics of AI and ChatGPT, a powerful natural language generator? Do you want to explore the ethical implications of using AI in youth settings? If yes, then this workshop is for you!

In this two-hour workshop, you will:

  • Understand AI and ChatGPT fundamentals.
  • Formulate effective queries and prompts
  • Navigate ethical considerations in AI use with young people.
  • Apply ChatGPT in planning activities for and with young people.

The workshop is divided into five parts, each with a different learning goal and format. Over the time you will explore some examples of AI tools that can be used in youth work. You will use a number of popular AI models hands on.

We will focus on ChatGPT, which can generate realistic and engaging conversations based on a given topic or prompt. You will try out ChatGPT with different topics and scenarios, and discuss how it can be used to facilitate dialogue, reflection, and creativity among young people, but also as a tool for yourself as a youth worker in your day to day practice. The learning goal of this part is to experience the potential and limitations of AI tools, and to reflect on the ethical and social implications of using them in youth work.

By the end of the workshop, you will have an understanding of the current state of AI and its potential. You will also have generated a detailed plan for a youth work session or project, integrating AI tools. You will also have access to resources for further learning about AI and its applications in youth work.
