This report led by Lankelly Chase, an English charity that has a focus on young people in the criminal justice system provides us with more evidence on the connection between poverty, multi-layered disadvantage and trauma in repeat offenders. Unless we work harder at understanding offending behaviour and intervening in the causes there are young people who will have an inevitable life trajectory of incarceration. Surely as a society, we can do better than condemning young people before their life has had an opportunity to flourish.
